¡VIVA LOVE! THE BEST 80’s SONG OF ABC AND MARTIN FRY RELEASES IN 2016

abc band

An 80s song, released in 2016? ABC band, the iconic bristish group led by Martin Fry, released a sequel of their first and best album, including this marvellous tune, Viva Love. Like good wine, it gets better in time.

Trembol | Why ABC and Viva Love have aged so well?

Like good wine, affection and maturity are a blessing to some songs. The band ABC, is living proof (I know, the name is not very original, but their music is, you will see). Back in the 80s, they reached the Top 1 on British charts with their first album “The Lexicon of Love”.

In 2009, after a concert where they were commemorating the album, its singer and the only representative of the group today, Martin Fry, decided to develop a follow-up. He wanted to revisit the sound of the album that everyone loved.

Thus, in 2016, ABC released “The Lexicon of Love II“. As a single, they selected a song that had been published, almost hiddenly, in a digital reissue in 2005, of an album called “Abracadabra” from 1991. Moreover, the tune was released as a remix version called “Viva Love (Brother in Rhythm Edit)”. Very complicated, isn’t it?

Well, Martin Fry decided to give some loving to that already mature song and by that, he achieved what for Trembol is the best song of his career: “Viva Love”.

Class, optimism, James Bond style, catchy chorus, updated eighties deal and above all, dance to the fullest! It doesn’t lack anything, that’s why Viva Love has aged so well.

Martin Fry explains why ABC band return with The Lexicon of Love II:

|
With ABC we never really did follow up The Lexicon of Love, we kind of went off in a different tangent for another album, Beauty Stan.

I have to say many years later I was playing at the Albert Hall with the full orchestra, with the band and I looked out into the audience, when we were singing ‘The Look Of Love’. I could feel the love and joy on that night and I thought to myself, what would a follow-up be like, but set in 2016.

I love sequels and this time I wanted to make a very big bold orchestral album and a romantic album.

|

You can’t miss ⭐️ The best parts of Viva Love

1. What a way to start the song! The orchestra playing a melody that i would be listening to for hours. Would you stay with me?

2.  Martin Fry’s class in the first verse: “You’ve got yourself a smile a mile wide”. I can’t help it, I love this song, don’t you?

3. Pay attention to the background vocals, the one behind the choirs in the chorus. What an 80s deal!”.

LYRICS ABC | VIVA LOVE | ENGLISH

You think the world will melt if you whistle
There’s a certain spring in your stride
You face the future like a heat-seeking missile
You’ve got yourself a smile a mile

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

When lightning strikes you don’t look for shelter
You’re floating free, gravity defied
It’s hell for leather on a helter skelter
Just steel your nerves for a bright white knuckle ride

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

In the battle of the sexes
Victory’s denied
I’m charging your tanks
With slingshots and knives
My troops they retreat
And run for their lives
I’m facing defeat
But somehow love survives

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva

LYRICS ABC | VIVA LOVE | SPANISH

Crees que el mundo se derretirá si silbas
Hay una cierta primavera en tu andar
Enfrentas el futuro como un misil en búsqueda de calor
Te pones una sonrisa de oreja a oreja

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

Cuando cae un rayo no buscas protección
Estás flotando libre, desafiando la gravedad
Es, tan rápido como puedas, apresuradamente,
Sólo mantén la calma que vienen curvas

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

En la batalla de los sexos
La victoria es imposible
Yo estoy cargando tus tanques
Con tirachinas y cuchillos
Mis tropas se retiran
Y corren por su vida
Afronto la derrota
Pero de alguna forma el amor sobrevive

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva
Viva love

Viva love
Viva love, viva love, viva love
Viva love
Viva, viva

Best ABC band songs 🥇

1. Another gorgeous song from ‘The Lexicon of Love II’, Ten Below Zero. The video is worth as much as the song. Attentive to Martin’s shoes, some things stay with you to the grave.

2. The most famous tune by ABC, The Look Of Love. A young Martin Fry leads this eccentric and eighties video. Doesn’t the video remind you of Mary Poppins?

3. A final surprise, an instrumental and operatic tune with the unmistakable ABC style. A B-side released in a 1992 reissue of “The Lexicon of Love”: Overture.

The Lexicon of Love was a pretty disrupting ‘New Wave‘ album. A sophisticated mix of punk and disco. There was a romantic plot in every song and cinematographic aesthetics (You can check yourself here).

Review

The Lexicon of Love II is an updated and mature sequel. Featuring orchestral sound that give it a halo of greatness. It also has a touch of cinematographic effects, like Martin Fry likes. I personally like it better than the first part, but it’s less disruptive.
