Yes, I love ‘Aqui Estoy Yo (Here I Am)’. When Luis Fonsi released it in 2009 as part of his 7th studio album, the multi-platinum ‘Palabras del Silencio (Silence Words)‘, it became one of his most popular tracks.
The reason why is simpler than it sounds – never before have four top solo artists come together to sing on one track. Moreover, each one enormously famous in their own country: David Bisbal in Spain. Aleks Syntek in Mexico and Noel Schajris in Argentina. This Ibero-American summit was joined by Puerto Rico, where Luis Fonsi was born.
What is the origin and meaning of ‘Aqui estoy yo’?
Luis Fonsi wrote the song 6 years earlier, in 2002, together with his friend and Argentinian singer-songwriter Claudia Brant. His idea was for it to be sung by 4 men because it is a song of support for women, or for a person we want to help emotionally. Fonsi wanted that support to feel strong and multitudinous, that’s why he incorporated several voices.
Once it was composed, he kept it because he didn’t know who to sing it with. In fact, for a while he thought about giving it to a group, but he liked it so much that he kept it.
A few years later, in 2008, Luis Fonsi was fishing on a boat with his friends Bisbal, Syntek and Schajris. That’s when the light came on 💡, and he proposed recording the song together. Thus was formed the “Quartet of Musketeers”, as Fonsi calls them.
Of course, all 3 accepted.
Is ‘Aqui estoy yo’ a vocal fight or a true friendship?
As Luis Fonsi himself said: “Friendship, zero egos”.
‘Aquí Estoy Yo‘ was recorded in Miami among friends. That camaraderie was also transferred to the music video.
