Morat | The triumph of authenticity

Before getting a manager, the youngsters tried to make a living playing in bars and restaurants, where they actually got their first opportunity thanks to a friend’s mother.

• The release of Sobre el amor y sus efectos secundarios in 2016, their first studio album, was preceded by the release of some singles in 2015.
• The first of them was Mi Nuevo Vicio, a collaboration with Paulina Rubio that crossed the borders of Colombia, becoming number 1 in countries like Spain and Mexico.
• As a curiosity about this song, did you know that they composed it in just half an hour during a meeting with Mauricio Rengifo, producer of Cali y el Dandee? In fact, it also stands out that the guys recorded the demo and it ended up arriving at the Miami studios and triggering the union with the Mexican artist, who wanted to record this song solo.
• Before all this, they released their first EP, Grabado en Madera, consisting of four songs in acoustic version, including ‘Cuándo me duele’.

The Colombian group had released their first album in June 2016, after writing almost 30 songs that resulted in the 12 that finally composed it.

• After the success of ‘Mi nuevo vicio‘ they released Cómo te atreves, a song of heartbreak that also penetrated deeply in the national and international public, which opened new doors for the group.
• A few months later they were heard everywhere again with ‘Cuánto me duele‘, certified as a Gold Record in Spain, something they would repeat with ‘Yo Contigo, tú Conmigo‘, a collaboration of the quartet with Álvaro Soler for the animated movie Gru 3.
• Such were the data harvested by this album that they released a new edition of it in 2017, under the title ‘Sobre el amor y sus efectos secundarios… Y unas cuantas cosas más‘, where acoustic versions and several new songs are included.

During that time, most of the members were also studying at university, with careers as different as History and Law, Business Administration and Fine Arts and Music.

Despite the youth that the components of Morat treasured in their beginnings, they were always clear that egos would not stand out, with each one having their own safe place to leave their mark and contribute their touch.

Morat’s second album, ‘Balas perdidas‘, was released in 2018 with a double metaphor. On the one hand it deals with love and war and on the other hand it suggests that songs are like lost bullets, sometimes they are meant for one person and end up reaching others.

While the first work of the band was made with time and few people, in this one the opposite happens, and it is that a greater number of professionals are involved and everything is done in a much shorter time.

With their second album, the guys from Morat consolidated as a solid band that was not born to be diluted after their first album, assuring that they were prepared to respond to the demands of the public.

The two most outstanding songs of the album were: ‘Besos en Guerra‘ with the also Colombian Juanes and ‘Cuando Nadie Ve‘.

But this was not all, the album was loaded with good songs such as: Punto y aparte, El embrujo (together with cousins Antonio and Josemi Carmona), Yo no merezco Volver, one of their saddest songs, and No se Va.

• Again, they repeated with great numbers and tours full of fans, which gave them the opportunity to record another re-release with four new songs, among them ‘Presiento‘, together with Aitana.
• Thanks to this album, they were once again nominated for the Latin Grammy Awards, this time in the category of Best Contemporary Latin Pop Album.
