Zara Larsson’s new album has been criticized for not offering a new sound, leaving a great diversity of opinions in its wake. The singer remains faithful to the style that made her known, the catchy and danceable Pop.

Venus is a work where she delves into romantic relationships, both past, present and future, but it is not the only thing she talks about, also addressing the pressure that comes with fame, yes, with a totally carefree touch.

The opening track, ‘Can’t Tame Her‘, has been playing in our heads since the summer of 2023. The song is about that girl you can’t tame, using a long night out as an example. In the artist’s own words, ‘Can’t Tame Her’ speaks of freedom and independence, which she craves despite being in the public eye constantly.

• Inspired by the pop sound of the 80s, the song became the first single from Venus, her fourth studio album.

‘More Than This Was’ is a ballad about a breakup. Zara ponders whether trying again would have been a good idea or if the relationship could have gone further. Although you can identify with the song (who hasn’t suffered a heartbreak?) right now it’s not a stage the singer is going through at the moment. And we’re glad for that!

‘None of these guys’ takes us to a party where Zara is surrounded by guys, although none of them catches her attention, all of them have a flaw, until one, finally, makes her change her thoughts completely.

Love continues to be the common thread in ‘You love who you love‘. On this occasion, love within a toxic relationship in which, as a friend, the singer tries to open the eyes of an important person in her life who refuses to see the negative side of her partner, with direct lyrics.

We’ve all had that friend, or been that friend, who keeps going back to someone who’s bad for them, and ‘You Love Who You Love’ is saying enough is enough

With ‘End of time’ we overcome the first half of ‘Venus’ immersed in a ballad that is gaining pace and conquers us in every note.

How many times have we said that nothing happens when in fact something does happen? That’s precisely what ‘Nothing‘ is about, a relationship that sinks because communication no longer exists between its members, forgetting that with effort, everything can be recovered.

In ‘Escape’ we completely change the register with a track full of energy and with a rhythm that hooks. During its more than three minutes, its protagonist imagines scenarios with that person who has driven her crazy and whom she needs as an escape route, always by her side.

‘Soundtrack’ is a song full of nostalgia about love, one that always had its own soundtrack in every key moment of the relationship and that the singer will always carry in her mind.

Already in the final stretch of the album, we find the song that gives it its name, ‘Venus‘. The song talks about a relationship with someone who gives you everything you need and who is able to release all your emotions, making you feel at home.

He ends this magnificent album with ‘The Healing’, a look at heartbreak and the healing period that comes after it. It’s a rawer track, a ballad describing a past relationship that wasn’t too good. He does so by opening his heart to a new person, to whom he asks for patience, because he needs time to heal his wounds.
