Robe Mayeutica | A 43-minute song that defines my life

robe mayeutica

If you love music like us and like Robe, you will discover that Mayéutica defines your life. Why? The answer is in the lyrics that we now unpack, but especially in this one:

I’m walking, and, from time to time, I find a song that pushes me, lifts me up and carries me and carries me.

Robe Mayéutica

Trembol | Why is Mayéutica by Robe a masterpiece?

Mayéutica is an album conceived as classical compositions, that is to say, with grandeur.

The work begins with an interlude, followed by 4 movements and a coda without ending. The whole piece lasts 43 minutes, which must be listened without interruptions.

  • In the Technical Note you’ll find the meaning of these terms (coda, interlude…)

Mayéutica is an overwhelming love letter, a musical work in capital letters, full of nuances that need several listens.

The album sounds delicate and dreamy at times, being forceful and resounding at others, because it is a cyclone of emotions.

Only masterpieces are capable of transmitting that much and so is Mayéutica.

🤔 Google most searched questionsa about Mayéutica

What does Mayeutica mean?

Mayéutica (Maieutics) is a term coined by the Greek philosopher Socrates who in his dictionary definition says: “maieutics is a methodical dialogue by which the questioned interlocutor discovers the truths by himself“.

In essence, maieutics is a technique that Socrates used with his students. When his apprentices had a doubt, instead of answering it directly, he would ask them questions that led them to find the answer for themselves.

The most surprising thing about the concept of the album, is that maieutics is also a Greek term that is related to childbirth, something that also leads to the album cover (see next question 🙂).

Robe is very fond of philosophy. In fact, Extremoduro’s album La ley Innata, refers to another ancient philosopher, Cicero, being the innate law the one that equals the human being to the beasts and helps him to survive.

What is the meaning of Robe's Mayéutica album cover?

This is Mayéutica album cover:

Cover Robe Mayéutica

What do you see there?

For me it’s clear, it’s a vagina. Besides the sex topic that plays a predominant role on the album, its main meaning is that of birth (maieutics in Greek is ‘expert in childbirth‘).

The back cover of the album is in color because the album tells a story that goes from a dark place to the light. Moreover, if you look at the image you can see a liquid coming out. Again, it is a double reference to the culmination of sex, the orgasm, and birth, with the amniotic fluid.

Is Mayeutica related to La Ley Innata?

Yes, there are many connections confirmed by Robe:

  • Both albums, Mayéutica and La Ley Innata, are conceived as a single work with interlude, several movements and final coda.
  • Inside the booklet of Mayéutica we find this image titles ‘La Ley Innata II‘:
second part of la ley innata

Robe La Ley Innata II

  • In the opening, ‘Interludio (Interlude)‘, the violin plays the same melody as the interlude in La Ley Innata, called ‘Dulce Introducción al Caos (Sweet Introduction to Chaos)‘.

  • Mayéutica begins with these phrases that are also used in La Ley Innata

The house is falling since she left, I lost track of the axis of the room.

  • The back cover of Mayéutica uses La Ley Innata front cover as a blurred background.

By the way, if you’re wondering, yes, there will be a third part 🥳

Is Robe a band or a solo artist?

Robe is Roberto Iniesta, an artist who founded one of the greatest Rock bands in Spanish ever, Extremoduro.

In 2005 he embarked on a new journey and surrounded himself with musicians other than those of Extremoduro, forming a new band which he decided to call Robe, because as he explained, he was the best known of the 7 members:

  1. Álvaro Rodríguez Barroso on piano and hammond.
  2. David Lerman on bass (sax and clarinet in previous albums).
  3. Carlitos Pérez on violin.
  4. Lorenzo González on vocals.
  5. Alber Fuentes on drums and backing vocals.
  6. Woody Amores on guitar (joined for Mayéutica).
  7. and Roberto Iniesta himself on guitar and vocals.

⭐️ Analysis of Mayéutica by Robe

1. Interludio (Interlude) | The connection with his past

The Interlude is the first piece of the work that connects it with a previous work (Extremoduro’s album La Ley Innata), creating in this way a greatest work 🎼

What a beautiful beginning with the violins, listen to it carefully!

The house is falling since she left, I lost track of the axis of the living room.

I leave the windows unlocked and the door open in case she decided to return that she would not have to wait, that nothing would entertain her.

He is wide open for his love, his passion, his muse, who has left him, to return

And I leave the songs without an ending in case she never comes back and nothing is true.

As Robe likes, songs are left unended so he can continue them in the future, as will happen with Mayeútica

2. Primer movimiento: Después de la catarsis (1st movement: After the catharsis) | After the moment that marks your life

Sublime start again with the violin 🎻!

No shadows of the past remain since you have approached. All is clarity now.

There are no sorrows left behind, no doors left closed, nothing left to tear down.

Not a shadow remains. Not a bitter memory remains. So as not to succumb, I have forgotten all the bad things.

When his muse is back, all is clarity and optimism.

Notice the collapsing sound that the violin string generates when he says “que derribar” and later on “no sucumbir“.

And I put, to see what happens, the cards on the table today, and I will tell you what is going on with me, in case you are interested.

He declares himself, opens up and tells her everything about him.

I feel like I shudder just to be with you, Breathing the same air.

I feel like I’m shaking. Could it be that because of love everything tastes different to me?

Question related to Socrates’ maieutics, we should find the answer ourselves.

The instrumental part thrills, what a beautiful melody!

I’ve lost my mind and I’ve lost it so many times I’ve lost count.

Now I’m certain and I’ve been so many times… and I always lost the bet.

And I spent sleepless nights like a wolf howling at the full moon.

Anything that makes you smile is worth it to me.

I wanted to make the world happier and I wanted to fly and make a new world and, although everything is yet to be achieved, I don’t despair.

Here Robe is still wondering if his life and the steps he has taken have been useful to make this world a better place (he is always supporting new bands, he even founded a record label).

Today maybe the wind blows in my favor and pushes me, lifts me up and carries me and carries me 🍃.

I’m walking along, and every now and then I find a song that pushes me, lifts me and carries me and carries me

The most beautiful part of the song 😍 , that’s Robe’s life and the life of many of us, who are on our way and suddenly we come across a song that moves us so much that it elevates us, changes us, fills us, makes us tremble…

I feel myself shuddering. Could it be that because of love everything tastes different to me?

The morning has come and a ray of sunshine has entered through the window.

He continues with his love declaration

I spent so much time waiting for this moment that I lost my mind. And I spent sleepless nights like a wolf howling at the full moon.

Anything that makes you smile is worth it to me.

I wanted to make the world happier and I wanted to fly and make a new world and, although everything is yet to be achieved, I don’t despair.

Today maybe the wind blows in my favor and pushes me, lifts me up and carries me and carries me. I’m walking and, from time to time, I find a song that pushes me, lifts me up and carries me and carries me.

Notice the drum beats behind the melody every time Robe says ‘me empuje‘, ‘me eleve‘, ‘me lleve‘, they give much more strength to the words.

The electric guitar solo joined by the violin in the bridge towards the 2nd movement is masterful.

3. Segundo movimiento: Mierda de Filosofía (2nd movement: Shit philosophy) | Time to break with the past

This part of the song is not sung, it is shot 🔫, it is the most aggressive and powerful. You can tell by the predominant participation of electric guitar and Hammond.

Shit philosophy, I’d leave, it chokes me. Tell me if you would come, and the day and the hour.

Looking for a way to make revolutions, I spent my whole life touching my balls: to have an ideology and lose my convictions, to go back to the primary, and I just want to make you dance, dance, dance like fucking crazy.

Robe has grown up as a person and as an artist, what worried him in the past doesn’t matter him anymore because the only thing for him now is to make his love, his muse, his fans, DANCE LIKE FUCKING CRAZY

Robe bailar

I don’t want to lean out to the bottom of the abyss, if I get closer I might lose my balance.

I don’t even want to lean out of the bottom of myself, as I lose my balance, and I just want to make you dance like a crazy.

He confesses his fear of falling back into the shadows from which he is fleeing thanks to her.

The song has solos of Hammond, violin, electric guitar… all of them masterful. Please enjoy the whole movement.

The imagery of the videoclip and the album by Diego Latorre is also amazing.

4. Tercer movimiento: Un instante de luz (3rd movement: An instant of light) | Inspiration arrives, his muse, love, sex

Come oooooooooooonnn! What a beginning! He is already with her, the music turns faster, livelier, because the climax is closed, it’s time to have sex…

Nothing after your gaze, nothing after this instant of light, only a frozen image. Nothing after this instant, but you.

Not a million kisses I gave you, not a million hugs I gave you, not a million verses I made you…

Hurry up, get into bed, the vis a vis is over and spring begins here, with this flower.

I wish I would die suddenly, now, fruit of this happy overdose that I get from having you right in front of me now, and I don’t need anything else….

There can’t be anything better in life, he could die then, because that is absolute happiness, mind and body in perfect harmony.

Y ahora, ahora, ahora siento el cuerpo. Ahora, ahora, ahora es el momento.

And now, now, now I feel the body. Now, now, now is the time.

The instrumental part reflects the whole intercourse. The highs and lows are represented with the violin, do you notice the ups and downs and the final climax? Afterwards, relax and a cigarette 😊

No shadows of the past remain since you have approached. All is now clarity.

There are no sorrows left behind, no doors closed, nothing to tear down.

Nothing after your gaze. Nothing after this instant of light, only a frozen image. Nothing after this instant, but you.

Beautiful! there is nothing after her gaze. It pierces your heart and fills it with light.

And I’m sick of surviving when I don’t see you, and now that you’ve stopped by and I’m in full swing,

Reggae part, to give a cool touch to the song

I wish I would die suddenly, now, fruit of this happy overdose that I get from having you right in front of me now, and I don’t need anything else….

He no longer needs any drug other than her

…than you trying to decipher my determination to draw a blue sky here among so much junk.

You trying to understand what I have come to look for, I lost the government of my own acts.

You, capable of guessing hidden messages in my howls under the full moon. You making me reach the limit, the desire.

She, who has known him for a long time, doubts a little about so many love declarations, but he confirms that this is the case, that he is disarmed and that he has realized that she gives meaning to everything

The final part of the 3rd movement is great. It starts with a triumphant electric guitar solo, followed by an almost classical music part and all the instruments join in apotheosis.

Au Au Au, si la luna brilla. Au Au Au, si la luna brilla

Au Au, if the moon shines. Au Au, if the moon shines

5. Cuarto movimiento: Yo no soy dueño de mis emociones (4th movement: I am not master of my emotions) | Reason does not rule the heart

Time for the last and longest movement, 15 minutes long.

Even if I didn’t know what to say, I wouldn’t hesitate to tackle you. Today I wouldn’t hesitate to ram you if you were here in front of me.

And today space-time granted us: a passing train, a station.

The flavors were so potent… and the colors were so bright… They’re just sparkles, I know they’re just sparkles.

The sounds were so powerful… and the stars were so bright… They’re just sparkles, I know they’re just sparkles.

Look at me, you’ve just arrived, and I’m climbing another step. I just found out that the Sun has risen and has promised to give me, from now on, a blue sky. A sky always blue.

The initial passion of the relationship has passed. Now life together begins. He wants her to walk through the door and stay forever.

Attention to the scream that sounds in the background in this part. The voice is used as an instrument, it is a typical scream of Heavy Metal, that of early-days Bon Jovi, it makes my skin crawl.

I leave the windows unlocked and the bed unmade and the door open, in case he comes back, so he won’t linger.

And I leave the songs without an ending because I can’t know how the story ends, in case he doesn’t want to come back and nothing is true.

That I am not the owner of my emotions. I am not the owner of my emotions.

He does not trust, he has already been scalded in the past, his loves and his muses and ideas have played tricks on him, so he leaves the song open, in case in the next chapter the story he has to tell a different one, because life is evolution and he cannot control it, he is not the owner of his emotions. Like everyone else, he is carried away by his heart.

I know that there is something approaching us. No, I don’t know if the sea will let go of a cloud and if it goes up, and if a wind comes to help it, or it may go up and it may be afraid of heights.

No, and there is nothing to incriminate us. It didn’t depend on you, no, and it didn’t depend on me, that the flowers dried up, that it was, I can assure you, the fault of a distant sea, that it didn’t rain, don’t cry that today space-time granted us: a passing train, a station.

I feel I’m out of place, today, in my mind. And I see that I urgently want to escape.

I want to start again a moonless night, I want to see you shining when it’s all dark.

A grabbing light, I need, because the ground is moving, seriously, it’s moving and it’s throwing me off balance.

If you notice, everything in this movement, from Robe’s voice to the instruments, including the melody, is calmer.

Passion has given way to a slower love, the one that comes with time, the one you have after many years with your partner, with your ideas, with yourself.

The show begins, requests are welcome here. All the dreams that have not been fulfilled.

We talk about love and there are no more conditions. Cross the door and stay with me.

Around minute 10 of the song the rhythm changes, he says the same words, but in a different way, more assertive, with more conviction, he is sure, she is the one.

I leave the windows unlocked and the bed unmade and the door open, in case I want to leave, in case nothing keeps me.

And I leave the songs without an ending because I can’t know how the story ends, in case I don’t want to come back and nothing is true.

That I am not the owner of my emotions. I am not the owner of my emotions, nor of the government of my own actions.

Back to the first movement where he admits that he is not able to control himself and maybe things will change…

The final 2 minutes of instrumentals are a blast!

6. Coda feliz (Happy Coda) | Work closing?

Is it really ending? Noooooooooooo! Carry on, carry on! At least we know that it is an open coda, there will be more parts of this masterpiece.

Now I am a happy addict. No one has ever seen me cry. Now I’m addicted to you and the air you breathe, which never runs out.

And now I’m a happy addict. No one has ever seen me cry. Now I’m addicted to you and the echo of your footsteps as they come.

Now I’m a happy addict. No one has ever seen me cry. Now I’m addicted to you and your skin and your mouth….

If you notice the song ends in a fade-out (progressive volume drop), but the band keeps playing at full blast.

Robe’s next album is bound to starts right here, with these verses and this melody, but without the fade-out
