MOON MUSIC (2024)
COLDPLAY Moon Music | Experimental & Instrumental
We already have with us the second part of ‘Music of the Spheres’, Coldplay’s tenth studio album, and we only have two left (Chris Martin has promised that there will only be 12 Coldplay studio albums). Find out all about ‘Moon Music’ 🌚
The meaning of Moon Music
Chris Martin explained that Moon Music is about accepting all the different phases of life and shining your light without needing anything in return.
The album is Coldplay’s answer to all the conflicts, the way to stay positive in a world where there seems to be so much negativity, it’s the way they try to keep things together 🤗 when there are so many things trying to pull them apart.
At its core Moon Music is about reflecting how the band members feel today.
Moon Music | Story behind Coldplay’s new album
25 years after its first success, Coldplay’s world tour, categorized as the biggest rock tour of all time, has grossed more than $1 billion and sold 10 million tickets.
Despite the grandiose numbers, it is the most organized and calm tour in terms of number of concerts per year that the band has ever done, less than 70.
The members of Coldplay are at their best, and this is reflected in Moon Music, an instrumental, experimental and commercial album.
- Produced by the genius Max Martin, and with cover art by Argentine photographer Matias Alonso Revelli showing a lunar rainbow 🌙.
Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Chris Martin take us on a 44-minute ride through the spheres on the second volume of ‘Music of the Spheres’, to find answers to the questions we all ask ourselves… why is there so much pain and destruction in the world when everyone is looking for love.
So begins the album with the eponymous track MOON MUSIC, which offers us 90 seconds of spacey synths provided by John Hopkins, frequent Coldplay collaborator, giving Chris and his constant faith to trust in a world full of love.
Feelslikeimfallinginlove, samples ‘Funeral Singers’ by Sylvan Esso. A beautiful song about feeling love for the first time:
Oh, it feels like
I’m fallin’ in love
Maybe for the first time
Baby, it’s my mind you blowIt feels like
I’m fallin’ in love
You’re throwin’ me a lifeline
And this is for a lifetime, I know
All the things I really feel I’ve tried to put them in the songs because when I say them out loud I sound like a nob.
Chris Martin (Coldplay singer)
Alien Hit / Alien Radio is the name of the song by the rainbow emoticon 🌈. The track, in Chis’ words, “is kind of a foreshadowing of what’s to come”. It’s about songs by other artists from other galaxies that are answering the question Coldplay asked themselves in the first track ‘Moon Music’:
If there’s anyone out there, I’m close to the end
If there’s anyone out there, I just need a friend
The song is about angels and other beings saying why don’t we try to understand what we feel, to express it in a safe place that won’t hurt anyone and try to be understanding.
At the end of the song we hear Dr. Maya Angelou saying that when the sun is covered by rain the rainbow comes out, as a metaphor for us to admire all the colors of each person, physically and metaphorically.
In Jupiter Chirs tells us “I love who I love”, meaning I am completely proud of who I love 😻
- For Chris his family and his band are a whole, there is no one without the other and they come together in a natural way.
- After 2 and a half years of a sustainable stadium tour that seems to have no end, Coldplay has found balance and happiness, and has done so by understanding music as a meeting place where at every concert a community of love is generated, not a cult of a band, but a communion, which has brought the band to the highest place they have ever been and will keep them there until they want it.
All my love is one of the few songs Chris has written in one sitting, with a little keyboard in Jamaica, the song came to him in its entirety, as happened to him in the past with Viva la Vida, Paradise or A Sky Full of Star, something he doesn’t understand, but for which he gives thanks. The song was co-written by Moses Martin, the 18-year-old son Chris had with his ex-wife Gwyneth Paltrow.
The album’s flagship track is undoubtedly WE PRAY, a song made for togetherness. For this reason Coldplay counts on the collaboration of the English rapper Little Simz, the Nigerian singer Burna Boy, the Palestinian-Chilean musician Elyanna and the Argentinean singer Tini.
Born in Taiwan in the middle of the night, the song reflects on the various conflicts in the world and how all people deep down pray for the same things. The alternate recording of the song with each singer, like Tini’s, appear in the artists’ native language as another gesture of communion.
Continuing their determination for sustainability, which they demonstrate every day on the longest and least polluting tour ever, Moon Music launched in a “green” physical format, made from 90% recycled material.

This album is about some of our personal challenges, but a lot about other people’s challenges. There’s never been an easier time to give up, and so this is a record about not doing that.
