DECLAN J DONOVAN Hungry | His passion for music runs deeper than anything else
Inspired by Ed Sheeran, Declan J Donovan bought his first guitar. Time and his unbridled passion for music ended up conquering the general public. Now he makes us fall in love with a magnificent single, ‘Hungry Heart’.
Who is Declan J Donovan?
Declan J Donovan, born in England, was living a normal life with his family until he saw Ed Sheeran on TV at the age of 15:
I felt like it was the thing I had been waiting for my whole life and fell in love instantly. I went out the next day and got guitar lessons – that was my introduction to becoming a musician.
Imagine the passion, he stopped going to school for 6 months, practicing all hours of the day until he learned to play 🎸. From there to writing his own songs was only one step.
In 2014, he sang his song ‘Fallen So Young’ at his brother’s wedding. Uploading it to SoundCloud it spread like wildfire reaching over a million fans.
- In 2016, she would release her first EP, ‘Fables’, followed by ‘Time Machine’.
His 2018 single ‘Pieces’ would make him more popular, although his turning point would be ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ in 2020. A ballad about inner beauty and self-esteem that went viral on social media reaching 130 million streams on Spotify.
Declan J Donovan’s first album, ‘Declan J Donovan’ was released in 2022 with wonders like ‘Vienna’.
- In 2024 Declan dropped 2 new singles: Ride or Die, and our Emotion of the Week, ‘Hungry Heart’.

Hungry Heart | Declan J Donovan’s new single
Declan said that taking care of himself over the past two years is what had made him truly happy. From this point he wrote ‘Hungry Heart’, a love song in which his partner becomes the gasoline that keeps him going ⛽
Donovan is characterized by his authenticity and approachability, as well as his warm and familiar voice. All these qualities he displays on his new single.
Declan’s music which started out as a mix of folk, pop and soul, with often reflective and poetic lyrics, was heavily influenced by the Dance world, something we can hear on ‘Hungry Heart’.
