Dylan John Thomas album debut

Dylan John Thomas | The Scottish breakthrough artist

Dylan John Thomas’ debut album, named after him, is full of authentic, autobiographical songs told poetically in voice and guitar, a revelation!

Dylan John Thomas debut album

Dylan is a 25-year-old Scotsman who has just fulfilled his dream, releasing an album entirely composed by him, although Dylan has been expanding his mass of fans in the United Kingdom since 2019.

The self-titled album ‘Dylan John Thomas‘ shows the gift that this boy has for turning songs with difficult themes into optimistic anthems. Highlight:

  • Fever: He feels very good at home.
  • Feel the Fire: The song that drives his audience crazy.
  • What I Need: Beautiful piano theme.
  • Up in the air: A ska song to jump like crazy.
  • Yesterday is Gone: The Emotion of the Week
  • Jenna: His first success.

His lyrics are the reflection of a hard and dark childhood in melodies rooted in his origins and enhanced by the strings of his guitar with a stripped-down beauty.

Dylan’s greatest obsession was for the album to maintain the spirit that is created in his concerts, in which there is an incredible communion with his audience: they sing every word, they jump non-stop, it is quite a party.

I have always said that we are live musicians. The albums always tried to capture that live feeling. That’s why they are not overproduced. There’s not too much stuff on the discs. There aren’t too many instruments, so when writing the album, we had to think about what would work here. In the verses, the rhythm section usually stops playing to create that dynamic momentum in the choruses.

Who is Dylan John Thomas? | His tough childhood and rise in music

Dylan was born in Glasgow into a broken family. While he has never told the details, he has written about it. In his song ‘Wake Up Ma‘, which closes his first album ‘Dylan John Thomas’, he explains:

Thunder beats the door
Another fight, Another war
Another crack in the window pane
Mother’s on the floor
Knocked out cold
Daddy’s bolted once again
Ma, wake up Ma
It’s me, wake up Ma
Fifteen foster homes
Three meals a day can’t fill the hole
Can’t fill the hole left in my heart
Social workers come
Once in five months
It’s not my turn to see my Ma

He spent his childhood in a foster home 🏚️. They had a PlayStation, but there was a kid who monopolized the controller, so he could never play. What he did do was listen to the soundtrack of Tony Hawks’s game, which constantly repeated ‘Ring of Fire‘ by the legendary Johnny Cash, his first idol.

The kids jumped around the room singing, enjoying themselves and, above all, forgetting for a moment all the shit that was happening in each of their families.

‘Ring on Fire’ was the first melody he learned when he was given his first guitar one Christmas, overcoming his ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) 🪕

He became fond of Simon & Garfunkel, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and other musicians of the ’60s, imitating their high-pitched melodies daily.

He began his journey at the age of 16 playing on the street, on the bus and in the Glasgow pubs where they let him.

His adoptive father then ran a local arts center and offered him a spot at an open mic event, which opened the doors to a series of opportunities for Thomas, eventually leading him to meet local composer Gerry Cinnamon. Gerry would become his big brother and guide.

With his help, in 2019 she would release her first single, ‘Nobody Else’, which began to be heard on local radio, expanding rapidly, which allowed her to open for Liam Gallagher, in addition to going around Europe with her friend and mentor Gerry. Cinnamon.

During this time he learned the ins and outs of the world of music. He learned to compose and sing from the heart.

In 2020, the pandemic locked him at home, like everyone else. The result was some of her best material to date:

It was cathartic to be able to write songs about my childhood and anything else. I started reflecting on my childhood, foster care and different things that happened and I was able to take that energy and movement and sculpt it into something worthwhile.

His first EP named after him, ‘Dylan John Thomas‘, was published in 2021, and the second ‘EP2‘ in 2022. While Dylan would continue playing live, being part of the lineup at festivals such as TRNSMT, Neighborhood and Glastonbury.

He was named revelation artist of the year at the Scottish Music Awards in 2022, becoming one of the new promises of indie folk in the United Kingdom.

His last tour in 2023 sold 9,000 tickets in Scotland in a few hours and filled venues throughout England, in brutal concerts: beers in the air, fans singing on each other’s shoulders and meles.

After releasing his first album in 2024, Dylan John Thomas has a year full of concerts where he will continue to strengthen his proposal, waiting for his international breakthrough, which you can be sure will arrive soon 🤩

Dylan John Thomas 'Yesterday is Gone' Lyrics

Yesterday is gone
So come on
Baby don’t you know that
Maybe you’re all that

I could ever want
So come on
Maybe you should know that
Baby we’re all that

You could ever want
So come on
Come on
Don’t leave your love in the dark

Come on
Come on
I won’t leave my love in the dark

And now I think about
Now I think about the love that she gave me
And when I’m down and out
Well I think about the place she could take me
And I see

Yesterday is gone
So come on
Baby don’t you know that
Maybe you’re all that

I could ever want
So come on
Maybe you should know that
Baby we’re all that

You could ever want
So come on
Come on
Don’t leave your love in the dark

Come on
Come on
I won’t leave my love in the dark

Yesterday is gone
So come on
Don’t you know you’re all I want

Yesterday is gone
So come on
Baby don’t you know that
Maybe you’re all that

I could ever want
So come on
Maybe you should know that
Baby we’re all that

You could ever want
So come on
Come on
Don’t leave your love in the dark
Come on
Come on
I won’t leave my love in the dark

Dylan John Thomas 'Yesterday is Gone' Lyrics in Spanish

El ayer se fue
Así que vamos
Nena, ¿no lo sabes?
Tal vez eres todo eso

Alguna vez podría querer
Así que vamos
Tal vez deberías saber eso
Nena, somos todo eso

Alguna vez podrías querer
Así que vamos
Vamos
No dejes tu amor en la oscuridad

Vamos
Vamos

Vamos
No dejes tu amor en la oscuridad
Vamos
Vamos
No dejaré mi amor en la oscuridad
