Who is Jimin?

Park Ji-Min, better known as Jimin (지민) was born in Geumjeong-gu, Busan, South Korea, on October 13, 1995.

From a young age he attended dance classes at the Just Dance academy, learning urban dance. Later he would also study modern dance 🕺, being the most outstanding student of his school.

In 2012, at the age of 17, he decided to try his luck and audition for the entertainment company Big Hit Entertainment, being admitted. That led him to join one of the most popular K-Pop bands in the world, BTS, with whom he debuted as a dancer and singer in 2013.

In his career with BTS, he has performed 3 solo songs, Lie, Serendipity and Filter. In 2019 they surpassed 50 million streams on Spotify, making Jimin the first Korean artist to have 3 songs with that many plays.

• ‘Serendipity’ also surpassed 100 million views on YouTube, making him the first BTS member to reach this mark as a solo artist.
• ‘Filter’, meanwhile, set a new record as the song with the best 24-hour debut on Spotify, 2.2 million streams. As well as being the longest running Korean-language track on the World Digital Song Sales chart, 80 weeks.

In 2014, Jimin collaborated with fellow group member and vocalist Jungkook on the song ‘Christmas Day‘, something they would repeat in 2017 covering Charlie Puth’s ‘We Don’t Talk Anymore‘.

In 2016, he appeared in variety programs and hosting some music program such as ‘Show! Music Core‘ and ‘M Countdown‘.

In 2018 he released his first solo track, ‘Promise‘, although it wouldn’t be until 2020 that he would repeat with ‘Christmas Love’, which is about his childhood memories during the Christmas holidays.

• 2 years later, in 2022, Jimin participated in the soundtrack of drama Our Blues, with a beautiful ballad called ‘With You’, a duet with Ha Sung-woon.

With his delicate voice and stratospheric dancing abilities, he has become a star in South Korea and globally, racking up record after record at his young age (he turns 28 in 2023):

• He was in 2018 and 2019 elected “Idol” in his country.
• In 2018 he was the 8th most tweeted about musician in the world.
• In 2019 he received an award for helping to spread Korean traditional dance, due to his dancing during the 2018 Melon Music Awards de 2018.

Despite being focused on music, Jimin has continued studying, graduating in 2020 with a degree in Entertainment and Telecommunication, and pursuing Business Administration.

Jimin started 2023, singing along with Taeyang the track ‘Vibe‘, but that wouldn’t be the only thing, as he soon released his first short album with 5 songs called, FACE, which debuted at No. 1 in South Korea and Japan and No. 2 in the United States.

FACE was introduced with ‘Set me Free. Pt.2’, one of Trembol’s Emotion of the Week (EotW). An intense song in whose video Jimin displays all his expressiveness through dance.

• The first part of ‘Set me Free’, is not his, but from his BTS partner, Suga. Although the two songs are unrelated, Jimin wanted to call it ‘2nd part’, because he considers one thematically precedes the other.
• Jimin describes the song as, “the energy of a ray of light coming into the darkness“.
• ‘Set Me Free. Pt.2‘ is an intense hip hop track where Jimin doesn’t let those who criticize him get down on him and overcomes his internal battles.
• It is also the first song where Jimin raps.

The second single, ‘Like Crazy‘, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Jimin the first Korean solo artist to top this chart.

• It is a synth-pop song inspired by one of Jimin’s favorite movies of the same name ‘Like Crazy‘. So much so that at the beginning and end of the song you can hear snippets of dialogue from the movie.

• Face-Off: A track that talks about resilience after feelings of doubt and disappointment.
• Interlude: Dive: An instrumental song that invites us to dream amid sounds of water and Jimin talking on stage.
• Alone: A ballad centered on what Jimin experienced during the pandemic: “doubts, frustrations and fear“.
