Duelo | The ninth and new album by Nanpa Básico

Duelo (Mourning) is the Colombian singer’s ninth studio album. This work explores in depth themes such as melancholy, overcoming and self-discovery.

After ‘HECHO M13RD4‘, Nanpa Básico’s previous album, released in 2022, it was expected that this album would be a continuation where Nanpa would talk about a rebirth, but the artist confessed that he was not reborn at all, in fact, quite the opposite, he still felt like he was in mourning.

I wanted to write about my mourning and make catharsis about the thing. Every day I woke up feeling a little bit different and I wanted to make a song out of each moment, you know? And that’s basically what Duelo is.

This work represents an exploration of deep emotions and personal experiences, fusing genres such as rap, ballad and Afro-Latin rhythms. Throughout the album, Nanpa deals with overcoming, self-love and healing, constants in her career and resonant with her audience.

1. Intro: A spoken intro where Nanpa talks about everything that sets her apart from the other person, we assume, an ex-partner. The text brings them 😊
2. Caballero (Gentleman): Nanpa remains a gentleman without saying anything, despite his ex-partner giving him hell out there. Fantastic song.
3. Hasta aquí llegué (This was it) (ft. Beéle): More than 100 million reproductions ratify the quality of this song with his compatriot Beéle. It is the biggest hit of Nanpa Básico’s career. Attention to how they sing: “Y aunque lloro, jururo que te años, aún siento de todo, no sé cómo te olvidaré”.
4. Peor que la policía (Worse than police) (ft. Lia Kali): The best single on the album, the collaboration with Spanish artist Lia Kali reflects the rawness of Nanpa’s experiences on his path of overcoming and resilience.
5. Oro por ti (Gold for you): Nanpa did everything for her partner, but to no avail. Very nice background trumpets and lyrics like: “See you in hell baby wait for me at the entrance, to give you my locket with a signed photo because you never understood that family is sacred”.
6. Me dañas por deporte (You harm me for sport): A very hard theme of heartbreak. Look at this verse: “…is to listen to the love of your life that goes from hand to hand”.
7. Se nos va (Is leaving us): …el amor.
8. Duelo (Mourning) (ft. Kany García): A fantastic song with Nanpa Básico’s and our favorite artist, Kany García. The song talks about overcoming grief.
9. Notas de voz (Voicemail) (ft. Rusherking): A great song. It sounds heartbreaking and powerful with the voice of Argentine hip-hop singer Rusherking.
10. El día que te duela (The day that it hurts): One of the weakest tracks on the album.
11. Chanel: This perfume still smells like the body: “Longing for a past love that still leaves the taste of its skin in your mouth”.
12. Cuando vienes (When you come): A fantastic song that rises with the winds that sound at the end of the song. It includes fantastic verses like, “I miss you every second even though I never tell you, of course it hurts that you’re no longer with me…”
13. Devuélveme el corazón (Give me back my heart) (ft. Pirlo): Together with another compatriot, Nanpa releases his strongest rap in all ‘Duele’.
14. Normal (Normal): First track where Nanpa tells us that he sees the light at the end of the tunnel of sadness.
15. Tus ojos no son azules (Your eyes are not blue): Ends ‘Duelo’ with a track with a clear sexual connotation. Has Nanpa Básico found a new love?

We don’t know if Nanpa Básico’s next album will finally be the one of recovery, but in the meantime let’s enjoy her ‘Duelo’.
