SUBTITLES FOR FEELINGS (2023)
PATRICK DRONEY Subtitles For Feelings | Craftsmanship and virtuosity in equal measure
Singer and celebrated guitarist Patrick Droney, known for his masterful blend of classical and modern, presents his new album, ‘Subtitles for feelings‘, where he puts music and lyrics to every frame of life.
‘Caroline’, the Emotion of the Week
A single reminiscent of the 80’s, which Patrick wrote with another music monster, Foy Vance.
Caroline is a stunning song that gives you that feeling of returning to a magical moment with a person you’re not sure you’ll ever see again.
Another undeniable proof of Patrick Droney’s ability to tell stories dressed in deep music that will one day rock stadiums.
I’m trying to catch up because it’s outrunning me. This record is my way of slowing it down.

Subtitles For Feelings | Track-by-track review
At the age of 30 Patrick Droney proudly presents an album of timeless pop, written between London, the Scottish Highlands, his home in Brooklyn and Nashville.
‘Subtitles for Feelings’ is full of close-ups of his intimacy, having taken his vocal performances in many cases directly from the demos, to keep Patrick’s original intent.
These are the 16 frames from Patrick Droney’s film:
- Baby, baby (Baby, baby): A romantic song to kick off ‘Subtitles for Feelings‘ which is only broken by Patrick’s cool electric guitar at the end.
- Shotgun Rider: Live it up, take to the road, set your heart on fire – a joy of a song!
- My Grandfather’s Home: Droney takes us on a trip down memory lane with his brother.
- Poems & Apologies: Reflection, nostalgia and a longing for connection take centre stage in this fantastic track.
- Caroline: As Patrick himself explains, Caroline is a bridge between his previous album, ‘State of the Heart’ and the new ‘Subtitles for Feelings’. You’ll love this story of unrequited love.
- Little Supernovas: A track about the importance of the little things.
- Limit: Slow and romantic track, with nice touches of Fender.
- Nobody Loves Me Like You Do: Patrick talks about loving someone with their good and bad things.
- Go Getter: First single from ‘Subtitles for Feelings’ that sets the slow, enigmatic and electric tone of the album.
- Memories: Beautiful track that grows with the minutes and makes us wonder what happens to all the memories we accumulate in life.
- Free: Free as a bird. That’s how Droney feels thanks to the love of his partner.
- Runaway: An uptempo uptempo that is eagerly picked up after the whole of the slower middle section of the album.
- 2AM: It’s 2am, they’re in Brooklyn and Patrick confesses his love for her – how could she say no!
- Tether: Between metaphors like flight, circles and ties, Droney draws a portrait of a relationship that is both uplifting and profound.
- We Got Old This Year: An almost whispered track that reflects on the bittersweet nature of getting older.
- Wild Horses Riding: Ends the album with the most guitar-driven song that reflects the philosophy of living in the present, accepting life’s uncertainties and recognising the beauty of the journey, even if it deviates from the intended path.
That Patrick Droney has a lot to give goes without saying. The combination of his electric guitar, which he plays masterfully, and a heartbreaking voice, especially when he raises the pitch, is a winning formula, although we must say that he exploits it much less than he could on ‘Subtitles for Feelings’, which, although a good album, does not reach the level of ‘State of the Heart‘, nevertheless this is another step forward in the career of a musician with capital letters.

Patrick Droney 'Caroline' Lyrics
I met you at the intersection
Of blind youth and a missed connection
It would turn out to be a misdirection
Oh, are you still in New York? And why am I guessing?
Caroline, where did you stay last night?
You come to mind sometimes when I close my eyes
Yeah, we were a dream and we both knew
But there was a night we were lying in the low light
From time to time, I still wonder, are you alright, Caroline?
And if you think about me too, Caroline
I don’t deserve to even ask this question
But who do you love? Who do you see the best in?
It’s not like you ever needed my blessing
You were never my girl, so why am I guessing?
Caroline, where did you sleep last night?
You come to mind sometimes when I close my eyes
We were a dream and we both knew
But there was a night we were lying in the low light
From time to time, I still wonder, are you alright, Caroline?
And if you think about me too, oh, do you?
You said Shakespeare was the saint of tragedy
And even God loves the Ramones
That saying I love you was blasphemy
And it’s all just rock and roll
Still, I wonder how you feel about it now
Caroline, hope you’re living your best life
Hope you’re doing more than just alright
Oh, how time flies
‘Cause there was a night we were lying in the low light
From time to time, I still wonder, are you alright? CarolineOh my, my, my, my
Oh my, my Caroline
Oh, oh-ohI can see you dancing
There’s not much more I can do
When you hear this song
I hope you know I think about you, Caroline
