BRELAND Cracks | Country music evolution
Breland is one of the new exponents of Country music that is breaking the classic schemes of the genre. The mix of hip-hop, country and pop from his first album ‘Cross Country: The Extra Mile‘ is reflected in ‘Cracks‘, a single that will make you wonder what Country is.
Cracks, Breland’s best song?
Cracks is a track with clear Country reminiscences, in which an electrifying chorus makes us turn up the music immediately, jump from our seat and start dancing like real cowboys.
The song talks about a relationship in which the cracks start to appear and that finds itself in the dichotomy of moving forward with their relationship or giving up 💔
Breland manages to captivate the listener with an infectious beat, a welcoming vocal tone and the innovation of his blend of pop and country.
For us it’s his best song so far and our Emotion of the Week, where Breland shows his constant evolution and creativity.
This is a very different sound for me, but as a songwriter I believe it’s some of my strongest work.

Who is Breland? | Brief biography
Daniel Gerard Breland was born on 18 July 1995 in New Jersey, into a religious family who filled their home with gospel music.
- At the age of 14 he began to have contact with other genres such as hip-hop, R&B, country and pop, writing his first songs.
In college was part of an a cappella group called The Phantoms, beginning his career as a professional songwriter soon. After graduating, he worked by day at a company and by night on his music. Breland would go on to write some 2,000 songs in 5 years 🎼. During Covid-19 he would start uploading music to social media until in September 2019, he released ‘My Truck‘, about truck culture in rural America. The combination of hip hop and country got a great response, reaching the official Country charts.
I just felt it was time for people to change their perspective on what country music is and what country music can be, because there is an audience of country music listeners under the age of 30 who believe Black Lives Matter.
‘My Truck’ would go on to reach number 1 on Spotify’s Viral 50 chart, signing Breland to his first record deal and releasing in 2020, two short albums: ‘Breland‘ and ‘Rage & Sorrow‘.
Breland’s career would continue to grow, collaborating with country great Keith Urban, hosting a radio show on Apple Music Country, ‘Land of the Bre‘, and releasing ‘Praise the Lord‘ with Thomas Rhett. His debut album ‘Cross Country’ was released in 2022, which would have an extended version called ‘Cross Country: The Extra Mile’ in 2023. Breland is a creative force who has unpredictably become a country star, defying labels and embracing music and life with a very inspiring motto:
Joy is a lifestyle and a decision.
Breland Cross Country: The Extra Mile | Debut album
‘Cross Country’ offered 14 songs that exuded a kind of country that transcends genre definitions, coming across as fresh and lively.
Whether it was the friends’ anthem ‘Here For It‘, featuring Ingrid Andress, the romantic ‘County Line‘, which celebrates his small-town life, or the celebration of the self-assured woman ‘Thick‘, which shouts out Lizzo, Megan the Stallion and Serena Williams, among others, the New Jack sensuality of ‘Alone At The Ranch‘ or the slithering, Soul-tinged ‘Don’t Look At Me‘, they create a cocktail that is equal parts effervescent and intelligent.
Breland’s lyrics run deep, as evidenced by the luxurious ‘Told You I Could Drink‘ (featuring Lady A), the acoustic stroll ‘For What It’s Worth‘ and the memory-tinged cluelessness of ‘Happy Song’ where he explores not only regret, but his part in the break-up.
6 new songs complete the experience in 2023 with the extended album ‘Cross Country: The Extra Mile‘:
- Cowboy Don’t
- Thirsty
- Anniversary
- Cracks
- Guilty Pleasure (feat. Brittney Spencer)
- The Extra Mile
Breland, who comes from a household of faith and has a preacher in his genes, has created ‘Cross Country’ as a guide to leaping for your dreams 😴

Breland 'Cracks' Lyrics
Is it the start of landslide
Or just a stone coming loose
Cause I was just starting to take in the view
Is it a chip in the windshield
Cause that happens sometimes
Or is it a sign that the road isn’t right
Do we give up
Do we give in
Or do we hold on
Some questions are questions you don’t want the answer to
Like asking baby what are we
And could I really be the one for you
I got no reason to think or believe that it’s time to go
But am I good for your heart
Or are the cracks starting to show
Guess if I gotta ask, I already know
Is it the end of beginnings
Or the begin of the end
And when
I drop you off will I see you again
Because it gets confusing
It’s so hard to tell
If we’re good together or better by ourselves
Some questions are questions you don’t want the answer to
Like asking baby what are we
And could I really be the one for you
I got no reason to think or believe that it’s time to go
But am I good for your heart
Or are the cracks starting to show
Guess if I gotta ask, I already know
Do we give up
Do we give in
Or do we hold on
Some questions are questions you don’t want the answer to
Like asking baby what are we
And could I really be the one for you
I got no reason to think or believe that it’s time to go
But am I good for your heart
Or are the cracks starting to show
Guess if I gotta ask, I already know
If I gotta ask I already know
Me voy a rendir
No puedo creerlo
