VOYAGER Promise | The song that should have won Eurovision 2023
We love Loreen’s Tattoo, the winner of Eurovision 2023, but watching the power of Voyager’s performance, and what an awesome song ‘Promise‘ is, in our opinion, it should have won the festival 🎙️
How did Voyager perform at Eurovision 2023?
The members of Voyager are big fans of Eurovision and had been trying to represent Australia in 2020 and 2022, although the chance would come for them in 2023.
With an impressive performance in the semi-final, they made it through to the final, and began to be considered the festival’s sleeping hit.
In the final, they returned to the stage with their car 🚘, the vocal combo of their 2 vocalists and a hair-raising guitar solo, making the audience go wild.
The jury’s votes placed Australia with 130 points, getting the highest score from Portugal and Iceland, but the audience only gave them 21 points, leaving them with 151 points in 9th position.

Myself and Danny (frontman) have always been Eurovision fans and we’ve been watching the contest for years. As a musician, you always sit there and think ‘That’d be really fun to play’. Then you remember that you’re a synth metal band from Perth, so it’s nice to dream that maybe we get something like that someday.

Who are Voyager?
Voyager is a band formed in Perth, Australia in 1999 and after many changes in their line-up, they currently consist of 5 members:
- Danny Estrin (vocals, keytar), Simone Dow and Scott Cay (guitars), Alex Canion (bass) and Ashley Doodkorte (drums).
- Vocalist Danny, is the only one who has been in the band since it was formed.
Voyager have slowly made a name for themselves in the music world, first in Australia and then internationally, with their own unique style that blends Pop and Progressive Metal.
- They always use a keytar (guitar shaped keyboard) in their concerts and transmit a very positive feeling with their songs.
Their first album ‘Element V’ became very popular in Australia, since then they have built up their project with 6 more albums:
- UniVers (2007)
- I Am the Revolution (2009)
- The Meaning of I (2011)
- V (2013)
- Ghost Mile (2017)
- Colours in the Sun (2019)
In 2023 they release a new album entitled ‘Fearless In Love‘, which includes the fantastic ‘Promise’.
What is Voyager’s Promise‘ about?
‘Promise‘ was written by the members of Voyager, as a message to try to find the things that make us happiest in life.
With a progressive synth-metal style and eighties tinges, the protagonist of the song asks his partner if she has ever felt better and asks her to stay by his side forever.
The band members explained:
The song is about how sometimes things get a bit complicated. There’s a lot going on in your life, there’s a lot going on in the world and it can be a bit chaotic and intense.
Sometimes you need to get away from it all and find the people that make you happy.
