Moncrieff kicked off 2023 with a heartbreakingly beautiful track about leaving a relationship when it no longer works, ‘Perfect’. Now he tells us how he tried to fight for that relationship in one of the Irish singer’s best songs, ‘What Am I Here For‘. A real treat.
What is the story behind ‘What Am I Here For‘?
The song is about a time in Moncrieff’s life when he nearly lost his mind after the death of his brothers.
A girl who would become his partner was his lifeboat, becoming his first real love.
He had been with her for 2 years when he decided to go to London to pursue his dream of music. The distance greatly complicated the relationship, so much so that she started seeing another guy.
When Moncrieff found out, he had the innocent idea that he would take the car, drive from London to Ireland, show up at her door and everything would go back to normal.
So he did, spending the entire day afterward with her, but that day it became clear to him that he would not get her back. Still, for Moncrieff, it was a fight worth fighting, even if this time it was his turn to lose 🥊

It was really painful. It broke my heart. It took me a while to get through that, but at the end of the day, the pain remains you that you are human being. You don’t get to choose the pain you get, but you get to choose what that pain means to you.
