RL Grime PLAY | Innovation arrives in electronic music
RL Grime has been making his mark on electronic music since 2012. In 2023 he does it with a disruptive concept, 3 albums in 1. PLAY is the name of this musical adventure that will take us through heavy beats (APEX), melodic tunes (GRID) and chill songs (RUSH). Which one will be your favourite?
Who is RL Grime?
RL Grime is a record producer and DJ, whose real name is Henry Alfred Steinway, born in 1991 in Los Angeles.
- He began his career under the name Clockwork.
He rose to fame remixing tracks such as Chief Keef’s ‘Love Sosa‘ and Kanye West’s ‘Mercy‘, releasing his first EP, ‘Grapes’, in 2012.
The first studio album, ‘VOID‘ would go straight to No. 1 on the US electronic music chart in 2014.
With over 150 million plays, rave reviews and performances at the world’s biggest festivals, RL Grime’s 2nd album, ‘NOVA‘, would follow.
After 5 years in which he has been building his own record label ‘Sable Valley’, RL has dropped a new album, ‘PLAY’, an EDM revolution.

Since the inception of RL Grime, I’ve had this goal in the back of my mind to start my own label. My Halloween mixes have always been an outlet for me to curate and showcase new music, but the natural next step for me was to start a label. My whole life I’ve been obsessed with the process of searching for and finding what’s next.

RL Grime’s new album PLAY is divided into 3 sections of 8 tracks each.
Each part has an independent entity and style:
- APEX: Perfect for festivals. Party music raised to the maximum power. This part includes our favourite track and Emotion of the Week ‘Breach’, featuring Juelz.
- GRID: This is the most melodic section. It’s full of collaborations, including ‘Pour Your Heart Out‘ with 070 Shake.
- RUSH: The final part, according to RL Grime should be listened to with headphones and concentrated, because it will take you to another place.
As a whole, PLAY is a very cohesive album that shows the way to new times in electronic music, of which RL Grime is one of the leading exponents.

RL Grime ft. Juelz Breach | Best song on the album
A smashing track, that’s what ‘Breach’ is. A 4-minute rollercoaster of emotions that RL Grime and his friend Juelz invite us to ride.
Between trap, breakbeat and techno, ‘Breach’ will undoubtedly be a hit at festivals around the world, as well as one of the best electronic tracks of 2023.
- The first 40 seconds create a mysterious atmosphere, which is broken by the scream:

- The track continues at full power, with an intensity that never stops growing. The synthesizers can be felt in the bones, including a somewhat dirty breakbeat part.
- From there we move on to a melodic part, anticipating the final storm, which reminds us of the famous theme from the vampire movie Blade.
As you can see, RL Grime is on a roll and that’s very good news for the EDM world.
