Who is TALK?
TALK is a Canadian singer-songwriter whose real name is Nicholas Durocher.
He started playing drums when he was 4 years old and then moved on to other instruments, but nothing really suited him. It was in high school that a teacher encouraged him to sing, discovering his passion.
For almost 10 years he played bass in a country band, composing song after song to improve his technique.
- He waited for his chance, but it didn’t come, so he had to return to live in the basement of his parents’ house during COVID-19.
- It was there, alone and depressed, that he wrote ‘Run Away to Mars‘ after seeing the film Interstellar.
This song would be his first single in 2021, followed by the ‘Talk to Me‘ EP. The track went viral on TikTok reaching number 1 on the Billboard Adult Alternative chart in 2023.

TALK wrote ‘Afraid of the Dark‘ for his grandmother whom he adores. As he explains, his ‘Mammie’, as he calls her, has had a huge influence on his life.
The origin of the track is a day when TALK was travelling to Los Angeles. That day his grandmother became very ill and had to be taken to hospital. TALK thought that he might not see her anymore. With that feeling in his head he wrote ‘Afraid of the Dark’, remembering his life, the places he likes and all the good times he had with her.
Luckily, his grandmother got better and he was able to teach her the song, making her very emotional.

Why is he called TALK?
Nicholas loves to talk, he says he never shuts up. He is also a big fan of Coldplay and their song “Talk”, which is how he got his stage name.
