YONAKA Give Me My Halo | From caterpillar to butterfly
Yonaka just published their new album ‘Welcome to my house‘, a record with 7 tracks that make you feel strengthened, heard and most of all, accompanied. The most outstanding track is ‘Give me my halo’, in which the band steps out of their comfort zone masterfully.
Who is Yonaka?
This is a British trio made up of: Theresa Jarvis (vocals), Alex Crosby (bass) and George Werbrouck-Edwards (guitar).
They fuse pop, punk and hip-hop to create a hybrid alternative rock sound.
They have released three albums by 2023 accumulating over 150 million streams and a growing fan base:
- Don’t wait until tomorrow (2019)
- Seize the power (2021)
- Welcome to my house (2023)
Each song represents a memory or emotion inside me. I want listeners to be able to open up a door, come into my world and see what each song meant to me at that specific time in my life

Yonaka Welcome to my house | Meaning of each song
Yonaka, and especially thier vocalist and main composer, Theresa Jarvis, open the doors of their house telling us 7 personal stories:
- By the time you are reading this: A song about living in the moment. When the past does not consume us and the future does not concern us, we live the present truth.
- PANIC: Explains a panic attack that Theresa suffered and what it means to have anxiety. In the theme she discusses with herself about it.
- Welcome to my house: A vision on who Theresa is. Very cathartic in her own words.
- Give me my halo: Theresa feels too heavy on her back and wrote this song as a search for the solution.
- I want more: It is a tune about having fun with yourself and not taking life too seriously.
- I don’t care: Try to discover who you are and do not change according to what others expect from you.
- Hands off my money: A anger song with a clear message to those who try to stop them: Fuck you!
We wrote it on piano and it just feels different. A little out of the comfort zone. We played it to our friends and they cried instead of danced so it was nice to see this different reaction.

Yonaka Give me my halo | Story behind
This song is different from what Yonaka is used to, powerful songs with a lot of anger.
‘Give me my halo’ is a ballad designed for voice and piano 🎹. It is about acceptance and feeling comfortable with yourself. It pushes us to be brave, welcome change, try new things and really live for ourselves.
As they say:
You’re turning from a caterpillar into a butterfly through experiencing life.
That Yonaka have a lot of talent is obvious, but in this song they have made it more present than ever.

Yonaka 'Give me my halo' Lyrics
I lay here sober as a judge
Thick as thieves yeah that was us
Now my mind keeps giving me up
Think it’s time to get away
Pockets in my jeans got holes
Cause my money see it don’t grow
If it’s a lesson, have I learnt at all?
Think it’s time to get away
Fire up the engine I’m leaving home tonight
And cut away my sins, they’re too heavy for the flight
Let hell rain down on my life and allow me to grow (Rain down on my life)
Burn away the parts you don’t like I don’t care anymore
I wanna feel untouchable
Spread my wings
Fly away
Touch the sky
And breathe it in
So give me my halo
Come on and give me my halo
So take me any
Anywhere but here
Streets are crowded
And they love my tears
I played the room my song
Nobody got up everybody turned off
How do I how do I turn water into gold
When will I feel comfortable being on my own?
Let hell rain down on my life and allow me to grow (Rain down on my life)
Burn away the parts you don’t like I don’t care anymore
I wanna feel untouchable
Spread my wings
Fly away
Touch the sky
And breathe it in
So give me my halo
Come on and give me my halo
When the tide
The tide comes crashing in
And I’ve got nothing left to give
Will you deem me fit to swim
And will you water me?
Cause I’ve, cause I’ve been here before
And it don’t get any easier
Tell me will you help me swim
And will you water me?
Let hell rain down on my life and allow me to grow (Rain down on my life)
Burn away the parts you don’t like I don’t care anymore
I wanna feel untouchable
Spread my wings
Fly away
Touch the sky
And breathe it in
So give me my halo
Come on and give me my halo
Quiero sentirme intocable
Despliega mis alas
Vuela lejos
Toca el cielo
Y respirarlo
Así que dame mi halo
Ven y dame mi halo
Así que llévame a cualquier lugar
Cualquier lugar menos aquí
Las calles están llenas
Y aman mis lágrimas
Toqué en la habitación mi canción
Nadie se levantó todos se apagaron
¿Cómo puedo convertir el agua en oro?
¿Cuándo me sentiré cómoda estando sola?
Deja que el infierno llueva sobre mi vida y permíteme crecer (Llueve sobre mi vida)
Quema las partes que no te gustan ya no me importan
Quiero sentirme intocable
No te preocupes
Volar lejos
Toca el cielo
Y respirarlo
Así que dame mi halo
Ven y dame mi halo
Cuando la marea
La marea llegue
Y no me quede nada que dar
¿Me considerarás apta para nadar
¿Y me darás de beber?
Porque he, porque he estado aquí antes
Y no es más fácil
Dime si me ayudaras a nadar
Y ¿me regarás?
Deja que el infierno llueva sobre mi vida y déjame crecer (Llueve sobre mi vida)
Quema las partes que no te gustan ya no me importan
Quiero sentirme intocable
No te preocupes por mi
Volar lejos
Toca el cielo
Y respirarlo
Así que dame mi halo
Ven y dame mi halo
