Loreen | Biography and Music
Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui, real name Loreen, was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on October 17, 1983, has Berber genes on her mother’s side and Arab genes on her father’s side.
- She lived in a family with five full siblings and what she calls, a half-brother and a fake brother. In total there were 10 of them, 4 girls, 4 boys, her mother and stepfather.
- Her mother moved to live in Barcelona, along with part of the family, so Loreen grew up between Spain and Sweden.
When she was little, she wanted to become a woman whose job was to save the world from all the misery and misfortune, together with her fiancé Michael Jackson 🕺 of course.
She knew from an early age that she wanted to dedicate herself to music, so as soon as she had the opportunity she entered the Swedish music program Idol. It was 2004 and Loreen was already 21 years old.
- Even then she did not call herself Loreen, but Lorén Talhaoui.
- She finished in fourth place even though she was the jury’s favorite.
She didn’t win the contest but her TV appearance 📺 brought her enough fame to release her first single, ‘The Snake‘ in 2015, with Rob’n’Raz.
- Loreen recalls that during a concert she forgot the lyrics to a song and I had to improvise a new one. The audience bought it, because as she said, “as long as you have feeling, most things work“.
That same 2015 she made her debut as a presenter on Swedish TV4, but then decided to start working behind the scenes, mainly as a producer and director of reality shows, thus disappearing from public life until 2011.
- Loreen has lent her voice to several animated characters in Sweden such as Shrek’s Sleeping Beauty, Barbie Butterfly or Smurfette.
In 2011 she returned to music, competing at the Swedish festival to choose the representative at Eurovision, Melodifestivalen. She did it with the song ‘My Heart Is Refusing Me‘.
- Despite not being selected, the song became a hit in Sweden.
Loreen My Heart is Refusing You
A year later, she tried her luck again, but this time with a song that was to conquer the world, ‘Euphoria‘. With this song she was chosen to represent Sweden at the LVII Eurovision Song Contest, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Loreen won Eurovision 2012 with Euphoria, breaking several records and becoming that year the most popular song in Europe.
Riding on the success, that same 2012 Loreen debuted her first album called ‘Heal‘.
- It was number 1 in Sweden, obtaining also great success in other countries, thanks to songs like ‘Crying Out Your Name‘.
- Loreen would go on tour in Europe and other places such as China.
‘Heal’ contained 12 tracks with a spiritual and mystical touch, imbued with Loreen’s characteristic authenticity. She composed most of the new songs included in ‘Heal’, trying to move away from electronic music 🎛️, even though it is her favorite style.
Loreen I’m In With You
Since then she continues to experiment, especially from the production side for her new songs.
- In 2014 Loreen collaborated with singer Ingá-Máret Gaup-Juuso, on the song ‘Son‘.
In 2015 Loreen had an album called ‘Paperlight’ ready, but she finally discarded releasing it in full, released instead two singles: Paper Light (Higher) and I’m In It With You.
- ‘Paper Light’ with which, in his words, he wants to prove that you can be comfortable in your own body.
- ‘I’m In It With You’, which talks about the struggle to reach our common goals.
- And a little further on, ‘We got the power’, which talks about female empowerment and free love.
Loreen Statements
At that time Loreen would openly talk about her bisexuality. In fact, she has participated on many occasions in concerts in favor of the LGBT community and has publicly declared to be in favor of the LGBT community.
In addition to her musical career, Loreen is a philanthropist who has contributed to various humanitarian and charitable works.
- She is an official ambassador for the SCA (Swedish Commission for Afghanistan).
- In 2013 and 2014, she received The World’s Children’s Prize, for her involvement for children’s rights and against violence and injustice in the Asian country.
In 2017, Loreen re-entered the Swedish selection for Eurovision, Melodifestivalen, with ‘Statements‘.
- The song is a critique of the church institution and the political class.
- Loreen did not make it through to the final 😒
Without falling apart, Loreen released a 2nd album in 2017 called ‘Ride‘, as well as an EP with 3 songs titled ‘Nude‘.
- It continued with her mystical and spiritual tone with tracks like ‘’71 Charger‘ or ‘Jupiter Drive‘.
Loreen was no longer mainstream, but true to herself and her music. Ride’ is a really good album.
The following years she released singles like ‘Walk with me‘, ‘Fiction feels Good‘ and an EP in Swedish called ‘Så Mycket Bättre‘ in 2020.
Loreen Jag är en vampyr
In 2022 I was back with a new lease on life and a purpose:
I like the feeling of creating characters in my songs that reflect both the parts of me that I have and the parts of me that I wish existed. In my upcoming songs, I focus on a sort of alpha woman, a contemporary Joan of Arc, who is going to try to save the world. I explore different parts of her in different songs, and the lyrics of ‘Neon Lights’ are about how she watches over and cares for someone who needs it
Thus she released the single ‘Neon Lights’ reaching almost 2 million streams.

Although she promised herself she would not try again, when she was presented with a song called ‘Tattoo‘, she couldn’t say no and entered the 2023 shortlist in her home country. She won again, so Loreen will represent Sweden at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool.
