BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Only The Strong Survive | The Boss sings Soul?
For his 21st album, Bruce Springsteen has decided to indulge one of his passions, the R&B and soul music of the 60s and 70s, creating his second album of covers after 2006’s We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions.
At 73, The Boss focuses on his voice, rather than the lyrics and music, as he has done throughout his career with the E Street Band. ‘Only the Strong Survive’ exudes smoothness and good taste.
How has Bruce Springsteen’s new album been received by the public and critics?
- The critics 🧐, in general terms, praise Bruce’s boldness in singing songs that require a treble that has never been heard before, although they comment that the album is a little decaffeinated at the end for being so far from the essence of The Boss.
- Fans, on the other hand, always appreciate having new material from Bruce, although the sales figures will be far from his previous and magnificent album ‘Letter to You’.
For this album The Boss recorded over 50 covers of black music classics, which is why you will see ‘Volume 1‘ on the disc cover. Bruce plans to release a second part in the future.

In my memoirs I made a little confession saying that I didn’t consider myself a great singer. But once I started this project, after listening to some of the stuff we recorded, I thought my voice is great! I’m 73 years old and I’m kicking ass, I’m a vigourous old man!
